Ilias Rent-a-Car
Terms & conditions.
The short version: no holding deposit, full CDW on every car, pay on delivery, tarmac roads only, and call the police and us if anything happens.
Vehicle selected
Vehicles are booked by model and are subject to availability. If the model you booked becomes unavailable for unforeseen reasons, we may upgrade your vehicle without notice, at the rate originally quoted and with no extra charge. We always try our best to give you the vehicle you chose, and booking early is the best way to make sure of it.
Vehicle capacity
The number of passengers and the luggage space shown on this website are a guide. Most cars in our fleet seat 4 to 7 people, but some have limited boot space, and how much fits depends on the size, shape and material of your luggage. If all seats will be used, travel light or book a larger vehicle. If in doubt, ask us and we will advise you on the right vehicle.
Driving conditions
All drivers, main or additional, must hold a full valid driving licence for at least 2 years. The minimum age is 19 and the maximum age is 75.
Fuel policy
Vehicles are delivered with at least a quarter of a tank of fuel. Fuel is not included in the rental price and is charged at the same rate as the petrol stations on the island. Return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel. Unused fuel is not refunded.
Optional extras
Child seats and booster seats are available on request, free of charge. Child seats are mandatory in Greece and, for insurance reasons, you fit the seat yourself. Additional drivers are free, as long as they meet the licence, age and experience requirements above.
On request, customers can take an extra protection package that reduces their damage liability.
Payment
The rental is paid on delivery, in euro, in cash or by debit or credit card.
Driver’s and renter’s responsibility
When renting a vehicle, the driver or renter is responsible:
- To inspect the vehicle for existing damage before the rental starts, and to take their own photos of its condition on delivery.
- To respect all traffic regulations and the laws of Greece.
- For any traffic fines or recovery costs during the rental.
- To secure and safeguard the vehicle until the end of the rental period printed on the rental agreement.
- To keep the interior as clean as possible. Normal wear and tear is expected. Smoking is not allowed in the vehicles.
- To contact the police, the insurance company and us immediately in case of a collision, accident, damage or theft. Contact details are printed on the rental agreement.
- In case of a puncture, to change the tyre using the spare and tools in the vehicle, or to contact us for tyre repairs or any mechanical issue.
- To return the vehicle in the same condition as on delivery.
- To read the rental agreement carefully before signing it.
Collision damage waiver (CDW)
Full CDW insurance is included with all our cars. Scooters, quads and buggies come with standard insurance.
For cars, CDW with zero excess covers damage and third-party claims when the rental vehicle is involved in a collision with another vehicle on a public road and the correct reporting procedure below is followed. Damage that happens without a collision with another vehicle on a public road is not covered, and the renter will pay towards the repair.
Customers are free to buy their own independent car-hire excess, damage or travel insurance from any company. We provide a detailed receipt on request so the costs can be reclaimed.
Accident reporting
In case of a collision with another vehicle on a public road, even if it was the fault of the authorised driver of the rental, the driver is fully covered with zero excess as long as the following procedure is followed.
Report every accident, however small. Do not move the vehicles from the scene until a report has been completed by the police or by the insurance representative. Report the accident to the police and to the vehicle’s insurance company immediately, with the location, so they can attend. Any accident with damage to property, a third party or an injured person needs both a police report and an insurance report. The police do not inform the insurance company, so you must also report it to them.
If the accident is not reported to the police, the insurance company and us, the insurance becomes invalid and the renter can be held liable up to the market value of the vehicle and any third-party claims.
Off-road driving
Scooters, quads and buggies must not be driven off-road. Two-wheel-drive vehicles must not be driven on unpaved roads or tracks. Any damage caused off-road is charged according to the actual extent of the damage.
Damage on return
Damage not recorded on the vehicle condition diagram or in the photos taken on delivery is considered new, and the renter is responsible for it. New damage is checked by comparing the photos taken on delivery and on return.
Repairs are carried out by a licensed repairer chosen by us, using genuine parts, in a way that keeps your cost as low as possible. We will never pressure anyone into buying extra insurance.
Vehicle delivery
We deliver 24/7 anywhere on Kos, within reason, as long as the vehicle is booked in advance.
- At the airport, our representative waits in the arrivals hall with an Ilias Rent-a-Car sign and your name, and walks you to your car.
- At your hotel, our representative meets you at reception.
- At your villa or apartment, we meet you at the address you give us when booking.
Termination of the rental agreement
We may refuse or end a rental and take back the vehicle immediately if the driver:
- Is under the influence of alcohol, medication or any other substance.
- Drives on unpaved roads, tracks or off-road.
- Does not accept the terms and conditions that apply to every rental.
- Uses the vehicle irresponsibly or for any illegal purpose.
- Intentionally damages the vehicle or third-party property.
- Is unfit to drive and a danger to the public.
Insurance limitations
No insurance cover applies:
- If the vehicle is driven under the influence of alcohol, medication or any other substance.
- If the vehicle is driven on unpaved roads, tracks or off-road.
- If the vehicle is damaged intentionally.
- If traffic regulations are not respected.
- For lost or damaged keys. Keys are chip-coded and the replacement is charged to the customer.
Complaints
If you are not happy with the vehicle or the service, tell us straight away, in writing by email or at our office, so we can put it right before the end of your rental. Complaints must reach us in writing within 2 days of the service in question. Complaints made only at the end of the rental cannot be accepted, because they deprive us of the chance to fix the problem.
We show every charge up front, mandatory and optional. No hidden charges.
